DISTURBING DETAILS EMERGE IN ALLEGED CHEROKEE HIGH SCHOOL SHOOTING PLOT

Three arrested as investigators uncover weapons, ammunition, electronic evidence, and alleged plans for an attack

CHEROKEE GA NOW | October 30, 2026

CANTON, GEORGIA

What began as a warning about threatening social media posts has developed into a disturbing criminal investigation involving three people accused of conspiring to carry out a mass shooting at Cherokee High School.

As new information emerges from arrest warrants and law enforcement statements, Cherokee County parents are learning more about the alleged plot—and how authorities intervened before anyone was harmed.

Investigators say they recovered firearms, ammunition, and electronic devices. Arrest warrants also describe discussions about obtaining additional equipment and selecting a date for the alleged attack.

The investigation has resulted in three arrests, including that of a former Cherokee High School student.

🚨 THREE PEOPLE ARRESTED

According to the Canton Police Department, the three individuals accused in the conspiracy are:

Shane Keith Taylor, 17, of Metter, Georgia.

Michael Brandon Terry, 21, of Chatsworth, California.

An unidentified juvenile girl from Canton, Georgia, who previously attended Cherokee High School.

All three face charges of conspiracy to commit murder. The juvenile also faces a charge involving disruption or interference with public school operations.

The juvenile was arrested October 20, while Taylor and Terry were arrested October 23.

Taylor was being held in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center, and Terry was awaiting extradition from California.

These are criminal allegations. All three defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

🔴 WHAT INVESTIGATORS FOUND

Authorities have disclosed several concerning discoveries during the investigation.

1. Firearms and ammunition

Investigators recovered firearms and ammunition believed to be connected to the alleged conspiracy.

Police have not publicly established the exact number or types of firearms recovered, nor have they disclosed a complete inventory of the ammunition.

The discovery is significant because investigators are examining whether the alleged threats had progressed beyond online discussions.

2. Electronic devices

Police also seized electronic devices as evidence.

The investigation began after the FBI identified threatening social media activity directed toward Cherokee High School.

Authorities have not publicly released the complete contents of the electronic evidence.

3. Discussions about body armor and other equipment

According to arrest warrants, the suspects allegedly discussed obtaining several items, including:

* Body armor

* Video cameras

* Combat boots

* Clothing or outfits for the alleged attack

* Weapons

The warrants describe an agreement involving the provision of weapons.

Importantly, the discussion of these items does not mean police recovered every item mentioned. Authorities have specifically confirmed the seizure of firearms, ammunition, and electronic devices.

4. An alleged attack date

One of the most alarming details in the warrants is that investigators believe the suspects had selected August 20, 2027, as the date for the alleged shooting.

That would have placed the proposed attack shortly after the beginning of the 2027–2028 school year.

Investigators have not publicly explained why that particular date was selected.

5. School images — but not protected floor plans

Initial reporting on the arrest warrants indicated that the suspects had obtained a floor plan of Cherokee High School.

However, on October 30, Cherokee County School District Superintendent Dr. Mary Elizabeth Davis issued an important clarification.

After consulting with Canton police, she stated that the suspects had obtained publicly available images of the school—not its protected architectural floor plans.

According to the superintendent, the school’s confidential floor plans were never accessed.

This distinction matters because it corrects a potentially misleading impression created by the initial warrant descriptions.

🔎 HOW AUTHORITIES DISCOVERED THE ALLEGED PLOT

The investigation began October 19 after the FBI identified threatening online activity involving Cherokee High School.

Federal authorities alerted Cherokee County School District Police, who coordinated with the Canton Police Department.

Investigators subsequently identified the juvenile suspect and uncovered alleged connections involving individuals in other states.

The investigation expanded beyond Cherokee County, with law enforcement coordinating arrests in Georgia and California.

Authorities say the cooperation among federal, local, and out-of-state agencies helped stop the alleged conspiracy.

⚠️ WHY THIS CASE IS SO CONCERNING

Several aspects of this investigation raise serious questions for Cherokee County families.

First, the alleged conspiracy involved individuals living in different parts of the country.

Second, investigators say the suspects had moved beyond general threatening statements to discussions involving weapons, equipment, and a specific date.

Third, a former Cherokee High School student was allegedly involved.

Finally, the discovery of firearms and ammunition underscores why authorities treated the online threats as a potentially serious danger.

At the same time, investigators have not publicly established how close the suspects were to carrying out the alleged attack.

🏫 WHAT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS SAYING

Superintendent Davis has acknowledged the emotional impact of the allegations on students, parents, and school employees.

She has also emphasized that established safety procedures and cooperation between law enforcement agencies helped identify and disrupt the alleged threat.

School officials have reassured families that authorities have not identified an ongoing threat to Cherokee High School or other Cherokee County schools connected to this case.

The Cherokee County School Board also addressed school safety and security during its October 29 meeting.

❓ QUESTIONS CHEROKEE COUNTY PARENTS DESERVE ANSWERS TO

Although investigators deserve credit for acting on the warning signs, the case raises important questions that deserve continued public attention.

How did the three suspects connect?

Investigators have not publicly explained how individuals from Canton, Metter, and California allegedly became involved in the same conspiracy.

How were the firearms obtained?

Authorities have not disclosed the origin of the recovered weapons or who possessed them.

Were there warning signs before October 19?

The public does not yet know whether earlier communications or reports might have indicated a developing threat.

What additional protections can schools implement?

Parents have a legitimate interest in understanding how threats are assessed, how information is shared among agencies, and how school officials respond when credible dangers emerge.

These questions should be answered through verified findings, not speculation.

❤️ A MESSAGE TO CHEROKEE COUNTY PARENTS

Every parent who sends a child to school should be able to expect that their child will return home safely.

The thought that anyone might allegedly plan an attack against students in our own community is deeply unsettling.

But this case also demonstrates why reporting concerning behavior matters.

An online threat that might otherwise have been dismissed prompted an investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

That investigation led to three arrests before the alleged attack date.

Parents should encourage their children to report threats, disturbing messages, or credible indications of violence to school administrators or law enforcement.

Students should never feel that reporting a potential threat is an overreaction.
